I just returned home from Washington, DC where I was a part of the "Lifetime Income Summit" that took place at the Washington Hilton. It was an amazing experience! It was also an opportunity to share our concerns about the retirement security crisis and share our ideas to help solve this problem. ASPPA, AARP, and The Women's Institute for a Secure Retirement (WISER) partnered together to have this summit to talk about the topic of retirement security in America. Senator Kohl's office and several others were there along with many organizations that are working in a bi-partisan effort to solve the retirement security crisis. With an all time low savings rate, and 64% of American families that will not have enough money to retire on, we need to work thoughtfully and carefully about how we can solve this problem. I was able to meet with Cindy Hounsell, the President of WISER. I use many of Cindy's materials when I am speaking. It is a great resource for helping women with planning for their retirement. Wendy asked me to join their speaker’s bureau, which will give me many more opportunities to speak to people about the many challenges that face women in not being prepared for retirement. I also took a picture with Kara Getz from ASPPA they are an organization committed to "Working for America's Retirement." You can read more about the Summit at the following link. http://www.lifetimeincomesummit.org/
I couldn't resist taking a picture of President Lyndon Johnson. He is made of wax and stands proudly displayed at the hotel. He looks so real!
