Yesterday I was the Keynote Speaker for the graduation ceremony for the 52 graduates that completed the "Make Your Money Talk" series. The Financial Education Classes are provided by the Housing Authority of the City of Milwaukee in a partnership with the Wisconsin Women's Business Initiative Corporation. Anthony Harris WWBIC Financial Awarness Program Coordinator along with Connie White WWBIC IDA Program Specialist and Paul Williams HACM Make Your Money Talk Program Coordinator do an amazing job with the Money Talk Program. My husband and I were very touched by the devotion of these graduates to get financially fit! One of the graduates from a year ago came back to speak and is now buying her first home. As Americans we need to become financially educated because this is not a low income problem it is an all income problem according to the financially literacy scores in the United States. Poor financial decisions lead to bankruptcy, poor saving habits, depression, domestic violence and suicide. With the savings rate in America at an all time low it is time for all of us to join in on the journey to be financially literate. Thank you to my sweet husband for driving me to Milwaukee and sharing this very memorable event with me.
